Programs for new moms this weekend

Two classes scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17, at Piedmont Fayette Hospital are designed to help mothers caring for their babies.

“Breastfeeding Basics” provides information to expectant couples on the benefits of breastfeeding for mother and baby, correct positioning and latch, milk volume expectations and breast pumps. The class will also cover what to expect during the early breastfeeding days as well as later returning to work. It is 10 a.m.-noon and the cost is $10.

“Baby Basics,” open to expectant mothers and their spouses or partners, provides information and guidance related to the care of the newborn. Topics discussed include bathing, diapering, burping, feeding, calming techniques for a fussy baby, car safety seats, immunizations, circumcisions, signs of illness and when to call the pediatrician. It is 1-3 p.m and the cost is $10.
