County to roll back millage rate by nearly 5% to collect same revenue as last year
The Fayette County Board of Commissioners will convene tomorrow morning in a special called meeting to set the millage rates for the coming year.
The resolution “adopting the 2016 property tax millage rates” is the only item on the meeting agenda.
The proposed rate for the General Fund’s Maintenance and Operations is listed at 4.917 mills, down from 5.171 mills or a decrease of 4.91 percent.
Millage rates for Fire Services (3.070 mills), EMS Services (0.456 mills) and E-911 Services (0.210 mills) would be unchanged.
The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the county administrative complex.
Other governments inside Fayette — the Board of Education, Peachtree City, Fayetteville and Tyrone — all expect to keep the same or only marginally reduced millage rates. With no rollbacks, the effect of increased property valuations is to bring in more money for local government spending with the same or nearly the same millage rates. The buck starts with the Fayette property taxpayer, who will in almost all cases pay more in taxes than last year.
