Newnan officials are in the process of implementing a cemetery system to record and maintain all burial and cemetery lot information for those cemeteries managed by staff within the city limits.
Due to the fact that burial and ownership records were inherited when the city began managing the cemeteries, we are asking for the public’s assistance in updating and ascertaining the accuracy of the data in our files.
If you have loved ones or relatives buried in the Eastview Cemetery in Newnan, you are asked to help make sure the records are accurate and up-to-date. This would be especially helpful for older graves where the writing on the markers or stones has worn off or for those graves which do not have markers. In many cases officials have names but very little other information, including the exact location in the cemetery.
Examples of information which would be very helpful include full name, birthday, date of death, parent’s full names, spouse’s name, location of the grave in the cemetery and where the deceased was born. If you can provide any or all of this information, contact [email protected] or 678-673-5490.
Additionally, if you have purchased lots in Eastview, a copy of the deed would be very helpful in establishing ownership of the lots in our system.
Eventually, the system will be available to the public and includes GIS mapping of graves. Any information the public can provide will be greatly appreciated and allow us to update our records with accurate data.
