Charles S. Bullock, university professor of public and international affairs at the University of Georgia, will speak Friday, Sept. 2, at the Georgia Archives as part of its free Lunch and Learn lecture series.
The “three governor” dispute of 1946 arose immediately after the death of governor-elect Eugene Talmadge in December 1946. Bullock will be talking about his co-authored book “The Three Governors Controversy,” providing a brief overview of the claims of Ellis Arnall, Gene Talmadge and M. E. Thompson to be the governor of Georgia in 1947. The talk will cover the elections that led to these claims and the resolution first by the General Assembly and then, ultimately, by Georgia’s Supreme Court.
The program requires no registration and is free and open to the public.
