Heritage Christian Church in Fayetteville recently hosted its largest week-long WinShape Day Camp ever, with 530 campers participating in team time, skills, worship and more.

This is the ninth year that Heritage has hosted WinShape on its campus.

During the camp, the first through ninth graders had an opportunity to pick from 21 different skills including fast food, gymnastics, painting, crafts, flag football, soccer, archery, newsroom, basketball, sewing, construction, wacky science and more.

In addition, they participated in a small group “team time,” which is where they looked at this year’s theme, “Follow,” from the verse John 8:12, and they also participated in an interactive large group time.

The week concluded with “Chick Fil-A Friday Family Fun Day,” which allows families to attend and experience some of the WinShape elements with their child.

More than 1,500 attended the Friday event.

Both Dan and Bubba Cathy visited camp during the week.

“What I love most about Winshape is that it is not just a Heritage event. It pulls the whole community together,” said Nick Serianni, Heritage Church’s children’s minister. “Kids from many different churches as well as unchurched kids attend. Our volunteers also come from a variety of churches.”

Serianni added, “I believe Winshape camp is the premier summer event in Fayette County. Hosted by Chick-Fil-A, everything about it is done with excellence.”

Heritage Christian church staff participated in the camp along with 31 WinShape staff and more than 100 volunteers.

This year, more than 30 kids gave their lives to Christ during camp.

“We look forward to partnering with other churches and the community for next year’s camp,” Serianni added. “Many of the scholarships were a result of local businesses partnering with us.”

Next year, Heritage will host the WinShape Camp July 10 to 14.
