Members of the McIntosh High School football team recently traded in their pads for a day of service giving back to the senior community at Fayette Senior Services.

The team took a break from its usual summer practice to volunteer performing a variety of tasks at the local nonprofit.

“We want each young man in our program to be successful,” said head coach Lee Belknap. “We define success as knowing your purpose, growing to reach your maximum potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others. This year we chose to serve Fayette Senior Services to benefit the seniors of our community.”

Some of these tasks included washing the FSS vehicle fleet, maintenance in the garden, cleaning the building and patio furniture, and pressure washing, in addition to other small tasks around the center.

“It is always a pleasure to see motivated individuals getting involved and making a difference in their community, and FSS was delighted to have the help of the McIntosh team,” according to a spokesperson. “It is a treat to see a local team work together as winners not only on the field, but also as winners in our community. The skills, work ethic, and great attitude these players have learned on the field were evident in their work off the field as well.”

“We are so grateful to the McIntosh High School football program for choosing to volunteer with us. They are role models, both on and off the field, and are making a positive impact on our com- munity.” said FSS volunteer coordinator Amy Epperson.

Over the past few years, Fayette Senior Services has collaborated with several groups in organizing “days of service” and is always grateful to have people and organizations wanting to help make a difference for the seniors who are ultimately served.

In addition to volunteer groups, FSS has positions available for individuals, hosting monthly volunteer meetings for new and seasoned volunteers on the first Thursday of each month from 2-3 p.m. at 4 Center Drive in Fayetteville. For more on becoming a volunteer, phone 770-461-0813.
