No, really — baby pigs

Some people may not know that Peachtree City Police Chief Janet Moon owns a small ranch. But now the rancher-cop is about to become the proud owner of two Juliana mini-pigs and Moon is asking citizens for help in naming the little critters.

The first of the little oinkers was born June 30 while the other is expected soon. Moon expects to take both home in the coming weeks, but not before they complete a bit of training — not the law enforcement kind, the litter box kind.

Moon said the little pigs attain a height of 15 inches and weigh in at about 30 pounds.

The piglet currently in training is a male, while the sex of its soon-to-be-born housemate is currently unknown. That said, Moon is asking for the public’s help in coming up with names for both.

“I’m bad with naming so I wanted to go to Facebook,” Moon said, explaining that she now has more than 250 suggested names.

When it comes to those suggested names, Moon’s Facebook friends are supplying no shortage of possibilities. Among the suggestions are Sherlock and Watson, Ham and Bacon, Oinkster and Spud, Starsky and Hutch, Smith and Wesson, and of course, Pigsley and Peaches.

Whatever the evenutal names, the new arrivals are already lined up for police work. While likely not destined to be sworn officers, the two will sometimes make the rounds as part of the department’s community outreach efforts, including with children.

Otherwise they will be at home, perhaps getting dinner ready for Moon when she gets off work. But don’t expect bacon to be on the dinner menu.
