Skies above Peachtree City and Newnan are expected to be free of rain for the annual parades on July 4.

Last year’s July 4 parade in Peachtree City was hampered with rainy skies. The Newnan parade had to be cancelled at the last minute due to thunder and lightning in the area.

In Peachtree City, this year’s July 4 parade will begin at 9 a.m. at Village on the Green, just north of the Braelinn Golf Course on south Peachtree Parkway. The parade wil travel north on Peachtree Parkway and will cross over Crosstown Drive and proceed north.

The parade will turn left on McIntosh Trail and continue on to the parking lot at the McIntosh Trail Recreation Complex a short distance away.

Those wanting to watch the parade or fireworks may not place blankets, tarps or other “space saving” materials for the parade or fireworks prior to dawn on July 4. At dawn, blankets and tarps only are allowed. No stakes, tents, barricades or other items can be used to save a spot for the festivities.

The annual fireworks display at dusk will be held over Lake Peachtree.

Prior to the fireworks display, a DJ and food vendors will be located at City Hall Plaza beginning at 5:30 p.m.

In Newnan, the annual parade will begin at 9 a.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Jackson Street and proceed through downtown. The parade will end at Greenville Street Park on the south side of downtown.

The festivities will continue at Drake Stadium (at Newnan High School on LaGrange Street) at 5:30 p.m. with a number of family events that include musical entertainment, attractions and souvenirs for kids and plenty of food.

The annual fireworks display at Drake Stadium will begin at dark.
