An Atlanta man and a Riverdale woman were arrested on multiple charges June 13 after hijacking a pickup truck filled with lawncare gear on Kenwood Road. One of the hijackers fired at least one gunshot as they fled the scene, but no one was hit, according to Sheriff Barry Babb.
Quintavious Rashun Maxey, 22, of Atlanta, was charged with armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon during a crime, hijacking a motor vehicle and theft of a motor vehicle, Babb said.
Tyeshia Head, 21, of Riverdale, was charged with hijacking a motor vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle and armed robbery, Babb said.
Babb said the incident occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m. when Head and Maxey pulled up at the Kenwood Road residence. Maxey left the vehicle and entered a Chevrolet Silverado belonging to a landscaper working in the backyard.
The female homeowner sitting on the front porch began screaming, which drew the attention of the landscaper working in the backyard. The landscaper ran to the front yard, at which time Maxey fired at least one shot at him while driving off with the truck, Babb said, adding that no one was struck by the gun fire.
The landscape trailer contained a lawn mower and other equipment, said Babb. The trailer gate was down at the time the vehicle was stolen and was dragged down the road, Babb added.
An intense search by deputies resulted in Maxey and Head being arrested by 3:30 p.m.
