Peachtree City Library will hold its kickoff event for its Summer Reading Program for adults Saturday, June 4, beginning at 9 a.m.

“Grown-ups look forward to summer as much as kids do,” said library administrator Jill Prouty. “Our Summer Reading Program offers adults the opportunity to have fun, explore new interests, and interact with one another at the library.”

This year’s theme for adults is: Exercise Your Mind. READ! The summer programs for children and teens feature health and wellness themes as well.

Piedmont Fayette Hospital will be doing free blood pressure checks inside the library beginning at 9 a.m. Representatives from Walk Georgia and the UGA Extension office will be in the Plaza in front of the library handing out free fitness bands to the first 75 people to show up for the “Sculpt & Tone” class that begins at 9:30 a.m. near the fountain.

Sculpt & Tone will be geared for the beginner and will be taught by fitness instructor Brycie Arruda of World Gym, who is pictured above. Only those age 18 and up are eligible to participate. World Gym is providing a healthy snack for participants afterward.

Walk Georgia is a free Web-based fitness program designed to encourage activity and exercise through accountability and community. The Walk Georgia program provides free fitness tracking, research-based knowledge, and resources on fitness. The website enables users to track their activities and record fitness progress; users can see how they stack up against other individuals in their county, the state, and can even create custom group challenges – which Peachtree City Library has done. Sign up at www.walkgeorgia.org to join the challenge.

Don’t have a friend to walk with? Prouty will be leading a group every Friday morning beginning June 10 at 8:30 a.m. The eAudiobook Club will “Walk to the Docks” while listening to South Toward Home: Travels in Southern Literature by Margaret Eby, available for download through the library’s OneClickdigital service at http://peachtreecityga.oneclickdigital.com.

“Walkers should download the title to their personal listening devices prior to our first walk,” said Prouty.

OneClickdigital provides unlimited simultaneous downloads, so patrons won’t have to wait for the title to be available. It’s always available.

“We’ll walk over to the dock at Battery Way and take a quick break for water and a little discussion about what we’ve listened to before heading back to the library,” said Prouty.

Walk to the Docks eAudiobook Club will meet by the fountain each Friday at 8:30 a.m. beginning June 20 and running through July 22.

Other programs this summer for adults ages 18 and up include seminars offered by Piedmont Fayette, “Healthy in a Hurry” cooking demo, adult coloring sessions, and a labyrinth walk. For the complete schedule of events, visit www.peachtree-city.org/library.
