Konos graduation is May 21

Konos Academy of Fayetteville has announced its 2016 graduates and scheduled commencement for Saturday, May 21, at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church South Campus. The keynote speaker will be state Sen. Mike Crane.

The valedictorian is Charis Harper (Magna Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA), daughter of Dr. Byron and Terri Harper of Fayetteville. She will pursue a nursing degree at Kennesaw State University.

The salutatorian is Jonathan Marchman (Magna Cum Laude), son of Dr. Barry and Evelyn Marchman of Tyrone. He has been admitted to the Honors Program at the University of Georgia.

To be considered for valedictorian or salutatorian a student must complete all four years of high school at Konos Academy.

Also graduating magna cum laude with a perfect 4.0 GPA are Brent Schulz of Sharpsburg and Adrian Romoff of Peachtree City. Brent will attend Liberty University in the fall to study youth ministries. Adrian, who has appeared on television on “America’s Got Talent” and won $100,000 in scholarships on the show “Child Genius,” is the youngest Konos graduate in ever at age eleven. He has not made a final decision on his college of choice.

Other magna cum laude (3.75-4.0 GPA) graduates are Sebastian Bianchi (Peachtree City), Katherine Denney (Carrollton), Kayla Elkin (Peachtree City), Sarah Futch (Peachtree City), Jordan Holt (Fayetteville), Jacy McElreath (Chattahoochee Hill Country), Isabella Segala (Hampton), Benjamin Spears (Fayetteville), and Jake Thorn (Rex).

Cum laude graduates (3.5 to 3.74 GPA) are Joe Goeglein (Tyrone), Lauren Maxie (College Park), Julia Pollard (Sharpsburg), Brittney Rowe (Fayetteville), Ruth Thompson (McDonough), and Christian Waltermire (Peachtree City). Over a third of the graduates have earned the full Zell Miller Scholarship based on grades and test scores.

Konos also congratulates graduates Halley Brown (Fayetteville), Daniel Jeffery (Peachtree City), Sarah Mathers (Sharpsburg), Dylan Shumacher (Peachtree City), Caleb Villars (Griffin), Joshua Villars (Griffin), Manny Wignall (Fayetteville), and Sam Worley (Peachtree City.)

In addition to the colleges already mentioned, Konos 2016 graduates will also attend Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Armstrong State University, Augusta University, Clayton State University, Clemson University, Furman University, Georgia College and State University, Kennesaw State University, Middle Tennessee State University, the University of Georgia, the University of North Georgia, and the University of Tennessee Knoxville.

Konos Academy is an accredited college-prep education center that meets at Christ’s Church at Whitewater, Fayetteville and combines strong parent-involved homeschooling, a core humanities program (Konos), and individual classes (Konos Plus) in math, science, languages, and the arts offered by 24 faculty members.

The headmaster is John Lee, a graduate of Brown University. Konos founders are Carole Thaxton, who holds a master’s degree from Syracuse University, and Dr. Charles Thaxton, who holds a doctorate from Iowa State University.

Konos Academy is in the process of purchasing property adjacent to Christ’s Church at Whitewater on Hwy 85 South in Fayetteville and is raising funds for a permanent facility. The Konos core programs for grades 4-12 have waiting lists for some classes, so parents are encouraged to enroll now for a guaranteed spot in 2016-2017. Individual classes in the Konos Plus program are currently accepting registrations. A new class offering this fall is American Sign Language. Information on Konos can be found at www.konos.org.
