A proposal to locate a RaceTrac station and convenience store on Ga. Highway 54 West at Veterans Parkway in Fayetteville has been withdrawn after Fayette County turned down a request for a median cut near the intersection.
City planning staff said RaceTrac pulled the proposal after learning that Fayette County would not support installing a median cut a short distance from the intersection of Veterans Parkway and Hwy. 54 West.
Essentially a staff topic item at Feb. 22 meeting of the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission, RaceTrac had proposing to construct a gas station and convenience store on the northeast side of the intersection.
As initially proposed, the development would include a 5,500 sq. ft. RaceTrac convenience store, nine fuel islands and approximately 35 parking spaces.
Access to the property would be from right-in/right-out areas on both roadways.
RaceTrac wanted a median cut on Veterans Parkway a short distance from the intersection. That would require an amendment to the intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between the city and Fayette County.
RaceTrac did not reach the point of making a formal presentation to the commission.
