Two McIntosh High art students took first place honors in their divisions at the Peachtree City Kiwanis Art and Music Showcase, and will advance to the state competition in Albany this April.
Catherine Quarles took first place in the ninth-grade division with her still-life piece titled “Bottle and Fruit.” She received a $130 award.
Sofia Metzier took first-place honors in the 10-12 grade division with her drawing titled “Figure.” She received a $310 award.
Both students will have their pieces judged against other top student artists from throughout the state at the Georgia District of Kiwanis Art and Music Showcase April 30 in Albany. They will be competing for $15,000 in college scholarships provided by the Georgia District of Kiwanis Foundation.
Art students from McIntosh High who also took placements at the Peachtree City competition were Vivian Scott, ninth grade, who placed second with her graffiti portrait, and received a $100 award; Natalie Hung, 11th grade, who placed third with her piece titled “Portrait of a child,” and received a $110 award; and Lauren Fraser, 11th grade, who placed fourth with her self portrait, and received a $100 award.
Additionally, Peeples Elementary student Annabella Orndorff placed second in the music portion of the showcase for grades 4-6 with her rendition of “Colors in the Wind.” Annabella is president of the K-Kids Club at Peeples.
