Two Inman Elementary students were the only ones in the county to qualify for the Georgia Association of Educators District 5 Spelling Bee.

First-place winner Aisha Siddiqi and runner-up Haili-Marie Cox represented the Fayette County Public School System at the spelling bee Feb. 27 at Sequoyah Middle School in Riverdale.

They faced off against elementary and middle school students from 15 other schools representing the eight surrounding counties that make up District 5: Butts, Bremen City, Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Griffin-Spalding, Heard, Henry, Newton, and Rockdale.

Aisha made it all the way to the eighth round where it was down to her and three other contestants for the victory.

“It was an awesome event, and it’s a great opportunity for our students to compete and test their skills against other highly motivated and hard-working students from outside our county,” says Inman teacher Charlie Harper.
