Teens from Fayette and Coweta counties and their parents on Feb. 13 received a host of sobering information from speakers at the Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Awareness Summit held at McIntosh High School.
More than 100 parents and teens attended the summit that defined teen dating violence, addressed the consequences of sexting and reviewed laws on stalking.
“It’s about power and control,” Georgia Legal Services representative Chandra Wilson said of the reason behind teen dating violence.
Attendees also heard from Audrey Holliday with the Fayette County Solicitor’s Office and Kim Henkel with the Fayette County Sheriff’ Office.
Also at the meeting, the Dare Dream Dance team performed two numbers.
The summit was organized by the Griffin Judicial Circuit Domestic Violence Task Force, Family Patterns Matter, Promise Place, Sanchez, Hayes and Associates, Fortitude Educational and Cultural Development Center and McIntosh High School.
