Middle schools victorious at math contest

Fayette’s middle school math teams dominated the competition at the annual Griffin RESA Regional Middle School Math Contest, securing top placements in each division, and sweeping the Individual Winners Overall category.

Flat Rock Middle took first place in Division I (smaller schools); Whitewater Middle placed first in Division II (medium schools); and J.C. Booth Middle secured first in Division III (larger schools), with Rising Starr Middle taking second in the same division.

Fayette math students swept the Individual Winners Overall category with Brandon Worrell from Flat Rock Middle in first place; Irene Kwon of J.C. Booth Middle in second; and Isabelle Neckel from Whitewater Middle in third place.

The regional competition includes schools from Butts, Fayette, Griffin-Spalding, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, and Thomaston-Upson county school systems. The competition consists of a multiple-choice test and a ciphering round.
