Richard John Kleimeyer Sr.,87, passed peacefully from this earth in his sleep on January 15, 2016, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, August 2, 1928, Richard has resided in Atlanta since 1955. A Korean War combat veteran, “Dick” earned the Bronze Star serving the United States Army 1950-1952. When he returned to Cincinnati, he married Joyce Marie Witham in 1953.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joyce Kleimeyer, his parents Margaret and Lawrence Kleimeyer, his brothers Louis Kleimeyer, Vincent Kleimeyer, and sister Dorothy (Kleimeyer) Maynard. Survivors include loving daughter Carole (Kleimeyer) Stansberry (Douglas), loving son Richard J. Kleimeyer, Jr., beloved granddaughters Michelle Joy Dunn (Christopher), Heather Marissa Monroe, Nicole Marie Wolford (Dustin), grandson Richard J. Kleimeyer III, his three great-grandsons Bradley James, Eric Matthew and Ryan Anthony, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews in Ohio, Illinois, and California.
Richard played tennis in high school and college, was an avid golfer, bowler, and followed in his father’s footsteps as a lifelong Knights of Columbus member. Richard was an ever present supportive and loving father and grandpa. “Pop” will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2016, from 5-7 p.m. at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. A funeral mass will take place Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, Fayetteville. A graveside service, with full honor guard military, will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga.
