The Coweta County Commission on Jan. 5 unanimously approved local share funding for an outdoor weather warning siren at Arnall Middle School and the purchase of two generators for fire stations No. 7 and No. 12.
Commissioners approved the purchase of an outdoor, omni-directional solar-powered weather warning siren grant to be installed at Arnall Middle School.
The design of the siren project includes target areas of locations where large numbers of people may gather who may not have access to information regarding changes in incoming inclement weather such as recreation areas and schools, among others, said Coweta County Emergency Management Agency Director Jay Jones in a Dec. 29 letter.
The funding breakdown showed federal funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency of $30,527, state funding at $4,070 and local funds at $8,010. Local funding is through the 2012 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
Commissioners also approved the purchase of two fixed generators for fire stations No. 7 and No. 12 to assure continuity of critical care fire safety services to the community through a combined effort of joint grant award from the federal government, state government and local sources.
The grant is from the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The federal share is $157,701 while the state share was $21,027 and the local share was $31,540, for a total cost of $210,268.
