If the NAACP wants to accuse Fayette County of anything, accuse us of conservatism, not racism.
There is absolutely no empirical evidence of racism in this case. The judge even said so.
We have had many very qualified black conservatives run for public office in this county, and yet the NAACP did not support their candidacy, and they lost by the slimmest of margins.
We urge you to vote against any settlement that (a) allows gerrymandering to achieve any perceived discrimination, (b) prevents the entire county from voting for county offices, such as Board of Education and Board of Commissioners, which legislate important issues that affect the entire county, including taxes and education policies, and (c) divides local cities into separate voting districts.
To settle in favor of district voting sends a message that blacks do not have ideas and plans that appeal to county-wide voters. That is simply not true in Fayette County.
