Local artists, sponsors, hosts, community leaders, and volunteers, came together Dec. 3 for the 9th Annual “Chair-ity” Event benefitting The Children’s Village at Christian City.
This special event is named for the unique chairs — decorated and donated by community artists — that are included in the event’s silent auction. More than $100,000 was raised to support the ongoing needs of the abandoned, abused, and neglected children who now live safely at The Children’s Village at Christian City.
“We are grateful for the faithful community support for our kids,” said Phil Kouns, COO of The Children’s Village at Christian City. “The one-of-a-kind painted chairs donated by artists, the hours worked by the volunteers, auction items donated by businesses and individuals, and the financial support of our sponsors are so appreciated. We’re overwhelmed by the dedicated support of all those involved!” The Children’s Village also registered some new monthly donors at the event.
“Monthly support is vital to the work we do,” continued Kouns. “Those committed donations sustain the quality care these children receive through our ministry at The Children’s Village.”
The ninth annual Chair-ity event at The Dolce/Aberdeen Woods in Peachtree City featured hors d’oeuvres and refreshments, live jazz by the Rick Massengale Trio, and holiday shopping via a silent auction. The event also included a raffle drawing for a new SUV provided by Lexus of South Atlanta. Southside Rotary Clubs came together to raise money for The Children’s Village by raffling a Lexus NX 200t. The winner of the raffle was Wanda D. Shaw of Griffin, Georgia.
“Community support is what sustains our ministries,” said newly named Christian City President & CEO, Len Romano, also in attendance at the event with his wife, Jana. “Because of the faithful dedication and support of all those who made this event possible, the children at The Children’s Village will continue to receive the care they need.”
The Children’s Village at Christian City is a 501(c)3 non-profit located in Union City, just south of Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Since 1965, Christian City has offered life services and a safe haven for children in crisis, aged 5-17. The majority who come to the program are victims of abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Some are placed through state custody, others come through private placements, and some come through the Safe Place program for runaway and homeless youth. Christian City offers these children a welcoming home environment, loving house parents, and a chance to heal and grow.
