The Dolce Atlanta-Peachtree Hotel and Resort was purchased Dec. 2 by Apsilon Hotels LLC. The hotel will be upgraded in the coming months and will be re-branded as the Crowne Plaza Atlanta-Peachtree Conference Center.

Apsilon Senior Vice President of Operations Bob Patel on Thursday said his company is always looking to expand its business.

“We are a member of this community and we believe in Peachtree City,” said Patel, in reference to the company’s other hotel properties in Peachtree City. “This is an opportunity for us to turn (Dolce) around and make improvements. We specialize in taking tired properties and upgrading them.”

To that end, Patel said Apsilon closed on the deal on Wednesday and, for the next 90 days, the facility will be known by its original name, the Aberdeen Woods Conference Center. After that time the facility will bear the name Crowne Plaza Atlanta-Peachtree Conference Center.

Patel said renovations will soon get underway and will include upgrades totaling approximately $10 million. The upgrades will include limited exterior work such as painting, while interior work including new carpet, lighting and painting in guest rooms and meeting spaces.

Patel said the upgrades are expected to take approximately 18 months.

With a price tag of approximately $9 million, the money spent on upgrading the facility will represent an investment of approximately $20 million by Apsilon.

Pertaining to the number of jobs expected with Crowne Plaza, Patel said the company is projecting 140—150 jobs, up from the current 125 at Dolce.

Apsilon also owns the Hilton Garden Inn situated on property immediately adjacent to the west. Apsilon also gained approval earlier this year to construct a Marriot Residence Inn in the Kedron Office Park.

The Dolce property had been up for sale for at least the past two years, according to earlier reports. The property is listed on the Fayette County tax rolls with a fair market value of $8.155 million. Dolce paid $30 million for the Aberdeen Woods Conference Center in 2007.

Apsilon Hotels LLC is Atlanta-based, with hotel properties in Atlanta, Peachtree City, St. Mary’s, Bremen, Fairburn, Douglasville, Lithia Springs, Forest Park and Hapeville.
