Members of Fayette County Post 105 of The American Legion raised the Navy flag Oct. 13 observing the birthday of the U.S. Navy.

The Continental Congress established the U.S. Navy Oct. 13, 1775 when they authorized the procurement, fitting out, manning, and dispatch of two armed vessels to cruise in search of ships supplying the British Army in the American colonies.

Howard Graham and Steve Cox, members of Post 105 and Navy veterans, prepare to hoist the Navy flag in front of the Log Cabin in Fayetteville.

Post 105 meets the second Monday of each month.
