Midwest assisting flood victims

Midwest Food Bank is assisting people whose homes have been damaged because of recent flooding in South Carolina, having been asked by The Salvation Army to provide water and family food boxes for affected people in the area.

The first semitrailer load of 800 boxes left Illinois Thursday for Ridgeland, S.C., said food bank senior operations director Mike Hoffman. Once the water has receded, allowing relief workers to enter the area, additional loads will be dispatched as needed from other Midwest Food Bank locations including Peachtree City.

Each box contains enough food and personal care items for a family of four for four days. Midwest Food Bank’s volunteer drivers deliver the boxes to affected areas, where they are delivered to families in need by The Salvation Army, Hoffman said.
