Voters will soon have a chance to hear from the candidates featured in municipal elections in Fayetteville, Peachtree City and Tyrone. A forum featuring the Fayetteville candidates in the November election will be held on Oct. 8 in Fayetteville, while candidates for office in Peachtree City will square off on Oct. 12 and 13 and those running in Tyrone will face voters on Oct. 12.
Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville will be the site of an Oct. 8 forum featuring Fayetteville candidates. Running from 6-8 p.m., the format will include introductions, questions from a panel of moderators and questions from the audience. Sams Auditorium is located at 205 Lafayette Avenue on the old Fayette County High School campus.
The forum will have incumbent Greg Clifton squaring off against Councilman Ed Johnson.
The Post 2 candidates include Councilman Mickey Edwards opposed by retired businesswoman Kathleen Brewer.
The Post 1 seat currently held by Johnson saw only one qualifier in retiree Harlan F. Shirley. Mimi Oddo, a write-in candidate and wife of Councilman Paul Oddo, will participate in the forum, according to organizers.
The forum is sponsored by the Fayette Chamber of Commerce, the NAACP Fayette Branch, the Fayette County Democratic Committee, Fayette County Republican Party and the Fayette County Issues Tea Party.
Forums for the Peachtree City and Tyrone races will be held Oct. 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Sandy Creek High School. The Oct. 12 forum carries the same format as in Fayetteville and is sponsored by the same groups.
The Post 1 seat in Peachtree City will see a race between Planning Commissioner Phil Prebor and homemaker Shayne Robinson. Councilman Eric Imker announced previously that he would not seek re-election to the Post 1 seat.
Tyrone will have two contested races.
Mayor Eric Dial is opposed by consultant Derrick Jackson while the Post 2 council race will feature incumbent Ryan Housley who will be challenged by Tyrone Planning Commissioner Wil James.
The Rotary Club of Peachtree City will also hold a forum for Peachtree City candidates on Oct. 13 from 7-9 p.m. in the Floy Farr room at the Peachtree City Library.
The forum will be moderated by Rotarians who will field questions from the audience. Only issue-related questions will be accepted.
Early voting will take place from Oct. 12-30 at the Fayette County Elections Office and from Oct. 19-30 at the Peachtree City Library and Tyrone Town Hall. Voting at all locations will be from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
