When Judge Jason B. Thompson was sworn in as State Court Judge, one goal was to visit every school in Fayette County. This is now his third year visiting schools in our county and he has visited almost every school in some capacity.

This September was a busy month he visited three elementary schools and a high school. At Kedron Elementary, he discussed the branches of the government and the role of judges in our judicial system to the fifth-graders. At Crabapple Lane Elementary, he had the honor of swearing in the Student Council and discussing responsibility with the new student leaders. At Peeples Elementary, Judge Thompson spoke to the entire first-grade class about the importance of making good decisions. September was rounded out by a visit to Starr’s Mill High School where he spoke to select English classes studying Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible.” He led a class discussion on the rights to trial in our current judicial system compared to those rights in the play.

In addition to visiting schools, Judge Thompson welcomed an intern from Starr’s Mill High School, Emily Louis, for the school year. She is participating in the Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) program through Judge Thompson’s partnership with the Fayette County Board of Education. Anyone interested in learning more about internships or school visits is invited to contact his judicial assistant, Toni Tumlin, at 770-716-4270 or ttumlin@fayettecountyga.gov.
