William H. (Bill) Barnett passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 24, 2015.
Bill was born on February 12, 1938 to parents Sid and Anna Lou Barnett. He grew up in Hapeville, Ga., where he attended Hapeville High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Upchurch Barnett. They were married 58 years.
Bill served in the US Army Reserves for 6 years, serving his active duty at Ft. Jackson, S.C. In 1957, he was employed at Presley Electric Co, East Point, Ga., and in 1968 purchased the company, where he ran a successful business until his retirement in 2001. His whole life he enjoyed time with family and close friends, hunting, time at the family condo in Florida, traveling and having morning coffee with friends at the Waffle House. His two sons loved, respected and adored him because of his gentle and humble life example.
He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Harold and Tom Barnett.
Bill is survived by his wife Carolyn, sons Scott Barnett (Jennifer) and Chris (Lori) Barnett, 5 loving grandchildren Lindsey Barnett, Leah Barnett Dixon (Buck), Caroline Barnett, Blake Barnett, and Elizabeth Ann Barnett, and brother Wayne Barnett.
A memorial service took place Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at 1 p.m., at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, with Dr. D.B. Shelnutt, Jr. and Rev. Carolyn Clifton officiating.
