Pinewood Atlanta Studios is fast becoming the place to be for Marvel Studios. “Captain America: Civil War” is under production currently with “Thor: Ragnarok” set to begin filming in mid-2016 after the filming of “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” gets off the ground a few months earlier.
Screenrant.com in a Sept. 9 announcement said the next Thor movie, “Thor: Ragnarok,” will begin filming in summer 2016.
“Chris Hemsworth is expected to return to his legendary role as Marvel’s Godfather of Thunder. ‘Thor: Dark World’ writers Christ Yost and Craig Kyle are returning to write the sequel’s script. However, Marvel has yet to announce a director,” according to projectcasting.com
Sceenrant.com noted that yet another Marvel movie, “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” will gear-up for principal photography at Pinewood Atlanta in early 2016.
“This new, fast-growing, Atlanta facility has become the new home for Marvel Studios who were the first company to use its stages when shooting ‘Ant-Man’ last year,” Screenrant.com said.
Projectcasting.com in a Sept. 10 statement referenced Georgia as the “unofficial filming location for all future Marvel movies.”
As for the near-term future, screenrant.com said, “Going forward, as Marvel Studios gears up production to handle three live-action feature films per year beginning next year, it’s likely that one or two of these will shoot in Atlanta every year going forward.”
“Captain America: Civil War” is expected to open in theaters on May 6, 2016 with “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” opening in May 2017 followed by “Thor: Ragnarok” opening in summer 2017.
