Fayette County 4-H members Lilly Bentley, Bohdin Bright, Jeffrey Chambers, David Niedermeyer, Emily Seckinger, and Jacob Seckinger participated in district 4-H Forestry Field Day Competition.
Jacob Seckinger competed as an individual on the senior level, while the junior team of Lilly Bentley, Bohdin Bright, Jeffrey Chambers, David Niedermeyer, and Emily Seckinger placed first in the district.
Jeffrey Chambers earned high overall junior individual and Emily Seckinger was third high junior individual.
The team was coached by 4-H Youth Development Agent April McDaniel and 4-H volunteer Jeff Mellin.
Prior to the competition, 4-H members attend weekly practices to learn to identify 44 species of trees and 25 insects and diseases, use a tree scale stick to estimate sawtimber volume, and practice pacing to estimate a distance by walking.
