Civitan tennis winners announced

The Fayette County Civitan Club’s 14th annual “Serve For Civitan” Junior Tennis Tournament took place Sept. 5-6 at the Peachtree City Tennis Center for players 12-18 years of age.

Here are the winners and runners-up in each category.

Boys’ 18 singles: Henry Squire, John Carlson.

Boys’ 16 singles: Mark Barrow, Christian Pumpelly.

Boys’ 14 singles: Samuel Arrow, Jack Lee.

Boys’ 12 singles: Robert Hagen, Jack Schondelmayer.

Girls’ 18 singles: Taylor Cranford, Morgan Dodd.

Girls’ 16 singles: Kelli Osajima, Marium Raza.

Girls’ 14 singles: Carly Kunkler, Kendra Womack.

Girls’ 12 singles: Olivia Nelson, Gabrielle Marshall.

This year’s tournament sponsors included Fairburn Ready Mix Concrete, The Harbin Agency, Duck Back Roofing, Hoffman Tire Pros, Broadway Diner, Berkshire Hathaway Realty (Tonya Jones), Coldwell Banker Bullard Realty (Jim Fulton), and Grand Courier, Inc. (Wayne Evans).

The Civitan Club conducts several fundraisers each year. Among them are the tennis tournament, Vidalia onion sales in May, the Old Courthouse 5K road race in June, pecan sales in November, fruitcake sales at Christmas, candy box donations, and a yard sale.

Charities supported through these funds include The Joseph Sams School, Camp Big Heart, Southwest Christian Care, Boy Scouts, Fayette Samaritans, Fayette Youth Protection Home, Shop with a Cop, Fayette County Special Olympics, Multiple Sclerosis Association, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, and the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham, Ala.
