Continuing a 30-year partnership between Fayette County and the Fayette Senior Services Inc. (FSS), a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, efforts are being finalized to complete a 1,600-square-foot renovation, including a 770-square-foot addition to the Center by the end of July.
Renovations were made to the existing Game Room, Lounge, Meeting Room and Vestibule areas to allow for expanding the fitness, social and educational programming opportunities currently in place for the seniors.
Not only does the remodeled area provide more conducive meeting space for larger events, but is likewise very accommodating for the seniors who can now enjoy more space within the fitness classes. The former pergola area outside the building was demolished to allow for construction of the multipurpose, educational and recreational space addition.
The primary source of funding for this project came through the Fayette Senior Services, Inc. from donations and gifts. Fayette County provided funds of $30,600 that went toward development of the project plans and construction improvements.
This project was competitively bid and subsequently awarded to a local contractor, Gene Barber Contracting, Inc. This expansion effort had a proposed construction budget of $164,858 and is on target to be successfully completed within that goal.
“Fayette Senior Services is already regarded among the best such agencies in the state, if not the best. The recent additions only enhance an already well-deserved reputation,” said Board of Commissioners Chairman Charles Oddo. “We are proud to play our part.”
For more than three decades, FSS has been making a meaningful difference in the social, emotional, and physical well-being of seniors in Fayette and surrounding counties. Between two locations – Fayetteville (4 Center Drive) and Peachtree City (203 McIntosh Trail) – FSS offers over 100 programs a month ranging from social, leisure, fitness, educational, technology, wellness, arts & crafts, and special events. FSS also hosts a travel group that takes monthly overnight and day trips.
