Peachtree City is listed among the ten safest Georgia cities from tornadoes, lightning and hail according to a report from HomeownersInsurance.com, a consumer-centric insurance marketplace.
Milledgeville took the top spot with Cordele, Grovetown, Winder and Conyers rounding out the top five. The rest of the top 10 are Vidalia, Thomasville, Jesup, Cusseta and Peachtree City.
To find the safest cities, analysts at HomeownersInsurance.com used a variety of weather data points to create total score for 50 Georgia cities with populations greater than 10,000 residents. Analysts used the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Storm Events Database to factor in occurrences of tornadoes in each area. The total score also took into account NOAA’s data on lightning strikes and hail. Some data sources were only available at the county level. Cities were assigned points based on the information for the county in which the city is predominately located.
Milledgeville topped the list due to zero tornadoes, as well as a low average occurrence of lightning. Atlanta, the largest city in the state, came in 49th, thanks to high scores in all three categories.
The most dangerous city on the list? Marietta.
