Peachtree City has a new planning and development director. Michael Warrix comes to the city by way of Brownsville, Texas, where he headed the planning and zoning department.

Set to serve as Director of Planning and Development beginning July 20, Warrix has 30 years of experience in public sector planning agencies and private sector civil and environmental engineering firms, said City Clerk Betsy Tyler.

Warrix most recently headed the Brownsville planning and zoning department, serving a city with a population of 200,000, Tyler said.

“We have seen a dramatic increase in projects this past year, and Michael’s range of experience at the local, regional, and state level will be a valuable asset to the department,” said interim City Manager Jon Rorie.

Tyler said Warrix has also served as Planning and Community Development Director for MSE of Kentucky, a municipal engineering, architecture and planning firm based in Lexington, and as Vice President of Planning and Community Development with Keck and Wood, Inc., a civil environmental engineering firm in Duluth.

Warrix’s public sector experience includes working as an Assistant Planner for Greenville, South Carolina; Community Development Planner in Berea, Kentucky; Effingham County Coordinator for the Coastal Area Planning and Development Commission; and Staff Planner with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

Warrix holds a bachelor’s degree in geography with a specialization in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Kentucky.
