The Fayette County Water System’s dredging project is about 50 percent complete and is expected to be finished by the end of August, according to county officials.

Weather has accounted for the majority of the time delays. There have been 48 rain days since February of this year, an average of every third day.

“Weather certainly impacted the schedule but overall we’re pleased with the work Massana has performed and the level of cooperation the county has received from Peachtree City with both projects,” said water system director Lee Pope.

While the county’s spillway project is substantially complete, a post-construction evaluation of the Lake Peachtree Dam-Spillway is being done in the next few weeks to ensure all necessary repairs are complete. This will ensure that Lake Peachtree is refilled “to its former glory,” county officials said.

“We’re all excited about getting the lake restored as soon as possible,” said County Manager Steve Rapson. “Hopefully we will get as much rain after the dredging project as we received during the project.”
