The work of Fayette County Extension Office volunteers in 2014 was worth more than $156,360.
That was the number on a faux check presented to the county at a recent Board of Commissioners meeting, at which time it was also announced that the group was again ranked first in the Atlanta Food Bank district with Plant-a-Row for the Hungry.
The monetary estimate was based on 4,069 hours of volunteer service as well as 22,204 volunteer miles. The volunteers planted, maintained, harvested and donated 49,013 pounds of vegetables and fruit to charitable organizations around Fayette and surrounding areas.
