Are daylilies the perfect perennials?

One way to find out is by attending the Coweta Master Gardener Extension Volunteers’ Backyard Association meeting Tuesday, June 9, at 7 p.m. at the Coweta County UGA Extension Office, 255 Pine Road in Newnan.

Gardening expert Gerald Denney will be the featured speaker. To him, daylilies are the perfect perennials. Maybe it’s because daylilies are available in a rainbow of colors and a variety of shapes and sizes. Or maybe because daylilies are able to survive with very little care in a wide range of climates.

Denney and his wife, Mary Ann, have been in the daylily business for more than 15 years. They own Fern Cove Daylily Farm near Newnan, where they grow at least 165 varieties of registered hybrid daylilies with exotic names like Toltec Sundial, Vermillion Clouds, Sun Soufflé, Savannah Debutante and Egyptian Pearl.

The public is invited to come learn why daylilies are easy to grow and suitable for all types of landscapes.

The Backyard Association is an educational program sponsored by the Coweta County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers. The presentations are free to the public and are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. While reservations are not required, please call the Extension office at 770-254-2620 if you want to be included in the drawing for door prizes.
