PTC announces three candidates for police chief

Peachtree City has announced the three finalists for the position of chief of police. The candidates set to be interviewed on June 2 include Marietta Police Department Maj. Archie Joseph Duvall, Suwanee Police Department Deputy Chief Janet Lee Moon and Atlanta Police Department Maj. Jeffrey Lawrence Glazier.

Duvall has worked with the Marietta Police Dept. since 1987. During that time he held the rank of sergeant, lieutenant, and major and working in the patrol and investigations divisions and commanded narcotics operations for Cobb County, commanded administrative support operations for the department, commanded all investigative sections, commanded the community policing program and served as special response commander for high-risk incidents.

In his application, Duvall said during his career he has “worked to make the Marietta Police Dept. an agency that has been at the forefront of community policing. We have excelled in building diverse relationships with the community and working in partnership to resolve issues through numerous programs and town hall meetings.”

Prior to working in Marietta, Duvall served in the U.S. Navy from 1983-1987. 

Duvall holds a Master of Public Administration from Columbus State University.

Moon has worked with the Suwanee Police Dept. since 2001 and has served as deputy chief since 2006. Her work involved overseeing business and law enforcement operations, developing and implementing policies, procedures, regulations and standards.

She served in the rank of captain upon her hire in Suwanee in 2001 and had responsibility for areas such as field operations and communications.

Prior to serving in Suwanee, Moon worked with the Rome Police Dept. from 1989-2001 where she served in various capacities from patrol officer to lieutenant. 

In her application, Moon said she is “Adept at utilizing evidence-based management practices to effectively administer the principles and practices of police administration, management and operations. (I am) capable of effectively managing and prioritizing multiple projects (and possess) effective communications through multiple media modalities.”

Moon also served in the U.S. Army from 1985-1989.

Moon holds a Master of Public Administration from Columbus State University.

Glazier has worked with the Atlanta Police Dept. since 1993. He currently commands the 3rd Precinct located in southeast Atlanta. From 2010-2014 he served as director of the Herbert T. Jenkins Atlanta Police Training Academy and served as Lt. Commander of the Narcotics and Financial Investigations Unit from 2009-2010.

Glazier in his application said he believes “trust is the foundation of leadership. We earn trust by making sound decisions and putting what’s best for the organization ahead of our personal goals.”

A soccer coach in Peachtree, Glazier and his family live in Tyrone.

Other positions held by Glazier with Atlanta Police Dept. include director of police services for Phipps Arena, Lt. Commander of the public safety headquarters, annex and E-911 projects and various positions in the 4th precinct.   

Glazier holds a M.S. in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University.
