Lamar Knight of Fayetteville was recently inducted into the Southern Polytechnic State University Hall of Fame in a ceremony on the SPSU campus. Knight was one of 34 former Southern Tech student-athletes named as inaugural inductees into the school’s Hall of Fame, which covers multiple sports over six decades.

Southern Poly discontinued its athletic department after the 2013-14 school year due to the university’s consolidation with Kennesaw State University, but it will have its own section in the KSU Hall of Fame.

Knight’s collegiate baseball career spanned 1981-1984. He was named to the NAIA Academic All-America team with a 3.64 grade-point average while leading his team that year in at-bats (209), hitting .302 with 42 runs scored, 41 RBI, five doubles, three triples, three home runs, 10 stolen bases and 22 walks with only eight strikeouts.

He earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering technology.
