The Southern Crescent Tennis Association (SCTA), in conjunction with the United States Tennis Association (USTA), has created a free beginner wheelchair tennis program for metro Atlanta area residents.
The lessons will be held on Friday afternoons between noon and 2 p.m. at the Peachtree City Tennis Center, 10 Planterra Way, Peachtree City.
The current session is scheduled to begin May 15 and attendance at previous sessions is not necessary.
SCTA will provide instruction, tennis racquets, and refreshments. There are a limited number of sports wheelchairs available for use that must be reserved prior to the lesson. Interested participants should contact Sharon Greiner, email ustahelp@gmail.com or by phone at 404-353-4248, to make a reservation.
Trainers have received instruction from nationally-recognized tennis professionals and are passionate about sharing their love of tennis with wheelchair players.
This program is available through a generous grant received from USTA and with the support of Peachtree City Tennis Center and Southern Crescent Youth Tennis and Education Foundation.
The USTA is dedicated to providing top-flight programming and developmental opportunities to wheelchair athletes of all ages and backgrounds. The goal, above all else, is for the athletes to learn the sport of tennis and have fun.
Over the past two years, SCTA volunteers have shared their love of tennis with Wounded Warriors and U.S. Veterans and hope to reach many more wheelchair athletes.
