Casablanca to head up student programs

Jose Casablanca has been named as the Coweta County School System’s Director of Student Programs and Grants, beginning July, 2015.

Casablanca is currently the principal of Smokey Road Middle School, where he has served since 2013. In his new position, he will oversee a number of school system services and student programs including REACH (gifted) programs, the elementary grades After-School program, system Summer School programs, and system mentoring programs, among others. His office will also be responsible for school system grant opportunities, and for overseeing school system social workers, school system nurses, the school system’s wellness plan, middle school athletic programs, and school councils.

Casablanca is a 14-year educator. His education career followed a 23-year career in the U.S. Army, during which he served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division and retired as a Lt. Colonel. Casablanca then served as a teacher of Spanish and English as a Second Language at Starr’s Mill High School in Fayette County, before coming to Coweta County in 2007. He served as an assistant principal at East Coweta High School 2007 to 2013, and became principal of Smokey Road Middle in 2013.

Casablanca earned his Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education at the University of Puerto Rico, and his Masters degree in Administration from Central Michigan University, and his Education Specialist degree in Administration from Lincoln Memorial University.
