A Feb. 24 vote by the Brooks Town Council will lead to a move for the Brooks Library and the eventual conversion of the current library as the new site for Town Hall.

The new library site is located at 951 Ga. Highway 85 Connector, the vintage building in front of Brooks Chapel. Once that is done, the site of the current library, just a couple of doors down the street, will eventually become the new Town Hall site. Town Hall is currently located behind Brooks Chapel.

The cost to purchase the new library building totaled $224,999. Funds for the cash transaction will come from the town’s previous fund balance.

“The library keeps growing and we have to move it again,” said Town Clerk Ellen Walls about the need for the move. “We’re very excited about it.”

The new library building has been vacant for approximately 18 months, Walls said, adding that it features an open floor plan.

The move to the new library facility could occur by sometime in the summer, said Walls.

Walls said the town is currently negotiating with Fayette County to acquire the old fire station near the post office.
