The Coweta County Commission on Jan. 22 proclaimed February as Coweta Community Foundation Month as a way of recognizing the far-reaching efforts and actions of the organization.
The Coweta Community Foundation (CCF) was established in 1997 by the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce.
“CCF exists to help make the quality of life better for all Coweta County citizens,” said CCF Chair Ginger Queener.
As a 501(c)3 organization governed by an entirely volunteer-staffed board of directors, CCF’s primary goal is to accept, manage and disperse gifts and bequests from individuals, organizations, corporations, and estates to nonprofit agencies in Coweta County, Queener said.
Queener said CCF’s funding interests include, but are not limited to, women’s and children’s issues, public safety, education and the arts.
“CCF maintains a broad and ongoing grants program which does not discriminate with regard to race, sex, religion, national origin, handicap, familial status or age,” said Queener. “The goal is to raise $250,000 over the next five years to support the nonprofit agencies in Coweta County. We ask that all citizens whether it is with $1 or $1 million to ‘Reach Together’ and pledge to assist CCF in the mission to be a source of grant funding for the agencies that work so hard to support our community.”
CCF raised over $28,000 in 2014 and have pledges of over $29,000 going into 2015, Queener said, adding that for 2015 CCF’s entire board of directors has pledged $10,000 of their own monies and the foundation has just landed its first employee payroll deduction campaign with the Coweta County School System, where they have pledged over $17,000 for 2015.
The Foundation’s goal is to keep expenses low and place a minimum of 85 percent of all donations into the hands of the nonprofit agencies, said Queener.
