Apsilon Hotels and its desire to construct and operate an all-suites Marriott Residence Inn in the Kedron Office park will be the subject of a public hearing before the Peachtree City Council on Jan. 15.
The council will also discuss the status of the Lake Peachtree spillway and engineering options and will consider a $1.146 million lease-purchase agreement on a variety of vehicles, equipment, records management and telephone system upgrades.
The Apilson proposal calls for the construction of a 62,000 sq. ft. Marriott Residence Inn on 6.522 acres. The structure would include four floors and no more than 45 feet in height at the highest point.
Apilson previously withdrew its request to develop a conference center and boutique hotel in the office park. If successful, the zoning would be changed from office-institutional (O-I) to limited-use commercial (LUC).
Based on conversations with neighbors, Apilson agreed to a covenant statement that includes the stipulation that a future rezoning of the two remaining pads in the office park from the current Office-Institutional zoning category would required the written consent of the Kedron Hills Homeowners Association.
The council will also discuss the status of the Lake Peachtree spillway and available engineering options. The county has received bids for its dredging project and asked bidders to include information on the additional work for Peachtree City. The county is expected to post the bids on Jan. 16 and have the bids as an agenda item at the commission’s Jan. 22 meeting.
The Ga. Environmental Protection Division (EPD) recently agreed that the dam would continue to be designated as a Category II dam which will require significantly less funds to upgrade.
The council will also consider a lease-purchase agreement for citywide network infrastructure and telephone system replacement, a police department records management system, police vehicle replacements, an EMS patient handling system, a fire rescue boat, fire vehicle replacements, a truck for the public works department, utility vehicles and equipment to be used by public works.
The total price of the package is $1.146 million.
The vehicles and equipment will be financed over a five years with quarterly payments beginning in March and with the interest rate not expected to exceed 2 percent. Funds for the FY 2015 debt service payments have been previously budgeted.
