The 2014 College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) scores are in, and Fayette County schools are among the highest in metro Atlanta and the state.

Scores released Dec. 16 by the Georgia Department of Education showed Fayette’s elementary, middle and high school groups all ranking second in the metro Atlanta area and within the top 12 school systems in the state, said school system spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach.

“Although average scores for Fayette’s elementary and middle schools are down slightly, metro and statewide rankings are unchanged from last year,” Berry-Dreisbach said. “A slight increase in the average CCRPI score at the high school level edged Fayette’s high school ranking up from third last year to second in 2014.”

Berry-Dreisbach said the CCRPI uses an easy-to-understand 100-point scale. She said:

• The average CCRPI score for the school system’s elementary schools was 85.9 (down one point from last year) and was the second highest among the metro counties and 12th highest in the state.

• The middle school average score was 87.2 (down 1.2 points from last year) and was the second highest in the metro area and 14th highest in the state.

• The high school average score is 82.3 (up .3 from last year) and was the second highest of the metro counties and 12th highest in the state.

The CCRPI is Georgia’s statewide accountability system, implemented in 2012 to replace the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measurement after the U.S. Department of Education granted Georgia’s waiver from NCLB on Feb. 9, 2012.

Berry-Dreisbach said the CCRPI helps parents and the public better understand how schools are performing in a more comprehensive manner than the pass/fail system previously in place under AYP.
