Assembling a car for seniors

This holiday season, consider purchasing a tax-deductible gift that is a little outside the box.

It may not be a gift you will see on most people’s Christmas list, but for many in Fayette County’s community, this gift will mean much more than any gift you may be wrapping.

Fayette Senior Services, Inc. (FSS), a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charity, has started an intriguing and unique spin to your average fundraising campaign in order to obtain funds for a new wheelchair accessible van for senior transportation.

FSS has broken down their new desired van into bits and pieces to give the community a chance to come together to buy parts.

Each piece has a different price, all that add up to the grand total of $39,000.

Jeff Wix, Transportation Coordinator, will be one of the first to support this initiative.

“Our service is not only safe, reliable, and friendly, but it is a resource for life for so many. A donation really is a life changer for those in need,” says Wix.

Being able to transport seniors, especially wheelchair bound ones, comes with a cost, and every little bit helps. Spread the holiday cheer this year by purchasing parts in order to reach the ultimate goal of providing vital rides to those that surround us and are in need.

It may come as a surprise that the simple task of driving a car is not an option to many in Fayette County.

FSS offers many services to senior citizens and disabled individuals in the Fayette County community.

As the leading provider for low-cost transportation services available in the county, this team delivers seniors and disabled to crucial doctor visits, dialysis, and pharmacy pick-ups on a daily basis. FSS is the only option for many in our community to get their life saving treatments at an affordable cost.

Each year, the transportation team at FSS provides over 13,000 trips for an average of 190,000 miles a year to over 350 clients.

With this demand on their vehicles and the continuous increase in request for service, their current fleet is in need of a new addition.

With two vehicles over 200,000 miles and the others quickly approaching, FSS’ transportation clients could use our help.

For more information on prices on each vehicle piece or to make a donation, please contact FSS at 770-461-0813.
