Sandy Creek High School’s Gospel Chorus received double honors at the 3rd annual “Bring the Noise” Youth Gospel Choir Competition Dec. 6, at the Sugarloaf United Methodist Church in Duluth.
After placing second in the judged competition, the SCHS chorus won the People’s Choice Award, an honor bestowed on the basis of audience votes. The chorus received two cash prizes totaling $750. In addition, the chorus will receive a recording session at Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta.
The “Bring the Noise” competition is an annual competition for youth gospel choirs sponsored by the Fortitude Foundation and the Gwinnett County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Choirs were given a total of 10 minutes to perform two gospel songs. Six judges scored the choirs on quality of sound, stage presence, originality, and timeliness.
The SCHS Gospel Chorus is a 26-member chorus under the direction of Craig Robertson, choral director at SCHS. The award-winning chorus will be performing at the SCHS Christmas Choral Concert tomorrow at 7 p.m. in Patriot Hall at the high school in Tyrone The concert is free of charge.
