Reverend William Ralph McBroom was born in Lamar County on August 19, 1918. He entered heaven on December 1, 2014 at the age of 96. He is known as Ralph to his family, but in the business world, he became known as Bill McBroom. He was loved as Papa and Grandpa by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. McBroom was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. McBroom was a pastor for several churches in the GA Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a bi-vocational pastor who was also employed by Hooper Holmes Bureau for 20 years and then employed by the Georgia Department of Insurance as a Deputy Commissioner for Agents’ Licensing for 26 years. After his retirement in 1989, Mr. McBroom started an insurance agency, McBroom and Associates, specializing in church insurance coverages, until selling the agency in 2007 Mr. McBroom was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Ethel Bradley McBroom.
Mr. McBroom is survived by his daughter Barbara (Ron) Sims; sons Don (Gena) McBroom and Thomas (Susan) McBroom; grandchildren Matthew Sims, Joshua Sims, Stefanie Guerra, Sara McBroom and Will McBroom; great-grandchildren Ciara Sims, Madeline Sims, and Silas Guerra.
The funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home. The burial will follow at Camp Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
