On Friday, Nov. 14, Tyrone Cub Scouts Pack 373 prepared over 500 sandwiches and treat bags for the homeless at the Tyrone Recreation Center. Every year, the pack set up a challenge to boost the number of sandwiches that can be made to distribute to the less fortunate. The goal for this year’s event was 300 sandwiches but the scouts broke the pack’s record. Putting the sandwiches together is an event the boys look forward to because it allows them to fulfill two of the key tenets of the Cub Scout Promise, which is to “do my duty to God” and “help other people.” Each scout earned his Community Service Patch for cheerful participation. The sandwiches were donated to the soup kitchen at the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Southwest Atlanta.
