The Peachtree City Police Dept. has received a $10,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) for its efforts in reducing crashes, injuries and fatalities.
“There were 24 small agency incentive grants given across the state and Peachtree City was one of the recipients,” said Lt. Matt Myers. “These grants are awarded based upon the partnership with The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety in helping to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities on Georgia’s roadways.”
Myers said the grant, which will continue through September of 2015, will help finance law enforcement equipment and supplies for traffic safety programs.
“The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is committed to keeping everyone safe on our roads and highways, from the smallest precious cargo to the most seasoned drivers,” said GOHS Director Harris Blackwood.
Comparing the years 2009-2013 and 2004-2008 the department showed 10 percent decrease in average number of roadway collisions per year, a 21 percent decrease in average number of injury collisions per year and a 17 percent decrease in average number of DUI collisions per year.
“The Peachtree City Police Department is committed to maintaining a high quality of life for our residents through improved roadway safety, making our residents more likely to make it home safely every day without suffering unnecessary delay, property damage, injury, or even loss of life at the hands of dangerous drivers,” said Myers.
