U.S. Army Col. (Retired) Ben Malcom will be inducted in the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame for Valor on Nov. 1 in Columbus.
Col. Malcom is a native of Monroe, Ga. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in 1950 upon graduation from North Georgia College where he earned his bachelors degree in education.
He also holds a masters degree in political science from Auburn University. He is a combat veteran of both Korea and Vietnam.
Col. Malcom is known throughout the Armed Forces as laying the foundation for today’s Special Forces Operations.
He is the author of “ White Tigers -My Secret War in North Korea”, which is in its fifth printing.
He speaks on the topic across the nation. He also teaches several classes each year at the John F. Kennedy Special Forces School at Fort Bragg, N.C.
Malcom’s awards and decorations include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Aviation Badge, Airborne Badge, and four awards of the Legion of Merit.
He is one of 16 native Georgians to be honored and inducted in the 2014 Class.
The second annual Georgia Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Banquet will be held in Columbus Nov. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. at Saint Luke Ministry Center (301 11th Street.).
