Sandy Creek High School’s Choral Department is pleased to present the 2014 Talent Show tonight at 7 p.m. at the new Handley Park Pavilion in Tyrone, during this year’s Founders Day celebration. Students will compete for prizes in several categories, including vocal solo, vocal duet, band/instrumental performance, dance, and others. First-place winners in each category will be offered the opportunity to perform onstage Sept. 19, during the Tyrone Founders Day festivities.

A POW/MIA ceremony is today at 9 a.m. at Peachtree City Hall.The ceremony honors America’s POW/MIA from past and present conflicts.
Tyrone’s Founders Day swings into more action tonight. The evening begins with arts and crafts, retail and kid friendly vendors to delicious festival food. Vendors such as BBQ, funnel cakes, Italian Ice, Philly cheese steaks, cotton candy, candy apples and so much more to tantalize our tummies. Also, lots of jewelry and unique fashion accessories will be sold throughout the festival. The winners of the talent show, will open up the evening at 6 p.m., with their winning performances followed by a band, Them Morris Boys. The band will be rocking it from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Based on popular demand, Piedmont Fayette Hospital’s Walk With a Doc program, which began in the spring, returns to Drake Field and will continue monthly through November. Rise and shine on today for the Tyrone 5K Fun Run and Walk, followed by a parade at 11 a.m. through the heart of Tyrone. The fun will continue with carnival rides, strong man contest, ice cream contest and varying entertainment acts throughout the day at Handley Park. In the evening, the Battle of the Bands contest, will be playing to win $500 from Partners Pizza in Tyrone, vocal lessons from Studio 27 and two days of recording time in the Zac Brown recording studios, with prizes totaling over $5,000. The Trenton Ewing Band will finish the evening along with fantastic display of fireworks at 9 p.m.

The Sandy Creek Marching Patriot Band will host the 2014 Annual Fayette County Marching Band Exhibition at the Battlefield at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone. Preview five fabulous half-time shows all in one location as the Fayette County High School marching bands kick off their competition season.Gates open at 5 p.m. A combined band from Fayette County middle school band students will start the event with the national anthem at 6 p.m.
Fayette County High will lead off the performances followed by McIntosh High, Starr’s Mill High, Whitewater High and host Sandy Creek High will wrap up the event.
The South Metro Rose Society meets today at 6:30 p.m. at the Heritage Bank in Fayetteville. All guests are invited to attend free of charge. This month’s program features local gardening expert and author Bonnie Helander speaking on the “Fabulous Focal Points: Creating a Garden with Personality”. Is there a child with special needs in your life. Southside Support is presenting Southside Symposium, a day-long conference. Join us to receive a message of hope, learn how their brain functions, and discover how small changes in their everyday diet can improve their health.
Karen Kain will open with an inspiring talk about hope for parents and caregivers of special needs children. The keynote is Dr. Robert Melillo, PhD, who will speak about Functional Disconnection – how each half of the brain works to influence learning, behaviors, and general health. And local pediatrician, Dr. Jill Dickerson, will offer advice about food, nutrition, and biomedical interventions that can enhance brain and body health. The panel at the end of the day will feature all three speakers and your questions.
The conference is from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. It will take place at Grace Evangelical Church, 164 Flat Creek Trail in Fayetteville. It will feature speakers, networking, breakfast and lunch.
